Hello! It’s good to have you here. My name is Jat Leng, and I’m a freelance content writer and editor in Singapore.


My experience

I’ve only ever worked with words, except during the first two years after university when I was an arts administrator. 

I got my start at a small publisher, writing and editing travel guides to Singapore and Malaysia. While there, I pitched in as a copywriter for the group’s design agencies. I was also the project editor of a custom community magazine.

I moved to an international travel guide publisher, Insight Guides, where I commissioned new titles on Asian destinations and edited manuscripts. I produced guides to Singapore, Bangkok, Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, to name just a few.

Then, at another design agency, I wrote some more: journalistic features and profiles, marketing copy and corporate communications. This period was intense. But it was also here that I developed my mindset for writing: I can learn about anything and write about it.

More recently, I co-founded an editorial outfit. I focused on telling stories for content marketing, often through journalistic features and profiles, while adding user-centric writing for experiential spaces and exhibitions to my bag of tricks.

In sum, my writing has appeared in ads, annual reports, books, campaigns, exhibitions, magazines, videos, websites and more. I’ve interviewed key executives, experts, rank and file, and people in the street. And I’ve written about many topics: food, health, education, media, business, travel, history, the environment and everything in between.

Which brings me to content marketing

I’ve written much over the years, and I’ve come to know what I like to do. I’m most comfortable when I write to inform and educate. I like the research that comes with writing. And if I can entertain you with a good story at the same time, I have little more to ask for.

I was therefore happy to transition into content marketing. Given its emphasis on storytelling and well-researched, trustworthy information, it’s a corner of the writing universe where I feel right at home.
